UNRWA Warns of Rising Child Malnutrition in Gaza Amid Israeli Blockade

New York: The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has reported a sharp increase in malnutrition among children under the age of five in Gaza, with rates doubling between March and June due to the ongoing Israeli blockade.

In a statement issued Wednesday, UNRWA revealed that its medical services are facing a severe shortage of resources, with 57% of essential medical supplies depleted. The agency warned that children are dying before their eyes because they lack the medical supplies or sustainable food to treat them.

The blockade has led to the complete exhaustion of medications for blood pressure, anti-parasitic and anti-fungal treatments, eye infection remedies, skin treatments, and oral antibiotics for adults. UNRWA emphasized that continuing to provide services in Gaza is becoming increasingly difficult. Since March 18, Israel has resumed its military campaign against Gaza following a two-month ceasefire that began on January 19.

The ceasefire has been repeatedly violated, with Israeli forces targeting various areas across the Strip, which is now enduring an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe. QNA
