Lawmakers demand budget amendment

Kathmandu: Lawmaker Prem Suwal has stressed the need for amending the budget for the next fiscal year, 2023/24 acting on suggestion provided by lawmakers in the parliament meeting.

Prime Minister and Finance Minister should be ready to amend the budget, he said in a joint deliberation while presenting a proposal on cutting expenditures on the appropriation headings related to the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation and the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport in today’s meeting of the House of Representatives.

Stressing the need for the budget to focus on resolving problems of the cooperative victims, he said, “There is a need for the government to interfere in bad cooperatives. The savings of the cooperative victims should be recovered by confiscating properties of the government officials, who have given the licence to such bad cooperatives. It is necessary to limit work area of a cooperative to specific local level wards.”

Similarly, lawmaker Basanta Nembang said the budget could not meet the target of physical progress and aims while calling for amending it. He also stressed the need for an amendment to the appropriation bills.
