Gandaki Province Assembly electing Speaker today

Pokhara: The Gandaki Province Assembly is electing its Speaker today. A meeting of the Province Assembly scheduled to take place at 3:00 pm is electing the Speaker, Province Assembly Secretariat said.
As per the schedule released by the Province Assembly Secretariat, time has been given from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm for candidacy fielding for the Speaker. The list of candidates will be released at 1:30 pm.

Secretary at the Secretariat, Hari Raj Pokharel, said that the proposal for the election to the Speaker will be tabled for decision in the Province Assembly meeting at 3:00 pm. The ruling parties have already forged consensus on power sharing for key posts in the province including the Chief Minister and Speaker. As per the agreement, UML’s parliament party leader Khaga Raj Adhikari has gotten the vote of confidence from the Province Assembly on Friday while the CPN (Maoist Centre) would get the Speaker.

Lawmaker of the CPN (Maoist Centre), Krishna Prasad Dhital, is likely fielding his candidacy for the Speaker at Gandaki Province Assembly on behalf of ruling alliance. The parliamentary party meeting of the Maoist Centre in the province on Friday evening has decided to file Dhital’s candidacy for the election of Speaker.

Dhital is elected under the FPTP from constituency no 1 (a) of Gorkha district in November 20 election. In the 60-member Assembly in Gandaki Province, opposition NC has 27 lawmakers, while UML 22, Maoist Centre 8, RPP two and independent one.
