Metro Mayor Balen has filed a writ against the Election Commission in the Supreme Court

Kathmandu: Balen Shah, Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, has filed a case in the Supreme Court against the decision of the Election Commission.

Shah reached the Supreme Court on Tuesday afternoon and submitted a petition in the constitutional bench. The Election Commission fined Mayor Shah and others for late payment of election expenses. The Commission fined Mayor Shah Rs.750,000.

Actions taken by the Commission, decisions including ignoring the fact that the expenditure statement was submitted within the deadline and imposing a fine of 750,000: If such fine amount is not paid in person within 6 months (i.e. by the end of Falgun 2079), the decision to stop participating in any election for 6 years and the elected person will be automatically dismissed from office, all other actions related to it, The action should be quashed by the order of prohibited transmission,” said the writ petition filed by  Mayor Balen.

Mayor Shah has mentioned in the application that the last day of submitting the expenditure statement was Saturday and  the next day that is Sunday, expenditure was submitted.
