Sandeep sent to custody for investigation

Kathmandu: The District Court, Kathmandu has ordered to keep suspended captain of National Cricket Team, Sandeep Lamichhane, in custody for investigation.

A bench of judge Madhav Prasad Ghimire, issued a verdict to send Sandeep in custody after heating on the case filed against Sandeep. Hearing on the case had begun from Wednesday. The office of Public Prosecutors on October 31 had filed case against Sandeep on the charge of raping a 17-year-old girl.

In the case, the Government Attorney Office demands an imprisonment (10-12 years) against Lamichhane as he is alleged of committing the crime under the Sub-clause 3 (D) of Clause 219 of the offense relating to rape under Chapter 18 of the Criminal Code-2017.

However, Lamichhane denies the charge and pleads to be an innocent. The rape charge was filed against him while he was outside the country to play the international match (Caribbean Premier League) and he was apprehended on October 6 upon his arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport.
